CHE 2217 - Organic Chemistry ICredits: 4 A systematic study of the compounds of carbon based upon functional reactivity with emphasis on the physicochemical approach to reaction mechanisms. A coordinated laboratory incorporates classical techniques (recrystallization, distillation, and extraction), analytical methods (chromatography and spectroscopy), and molecular modeling. Qualitative analysis of organic compounds comprises half of the second-semester laboratory. Courses include laboratory. Prerequisites Chemistry 1102.
