MUS 2234 - Music in the Arab World

Credits: 4.00
This course teaches students the techniques and rhythms of the Arab tambourine, known as riqq, the primary accompaniment drum of Arab classical music. As well, students will listen to the music of the major artists of the 20th century, such as Oum Kalsoum, Muhammad Abdul Wahab, Fairuz and others. Grades will be given through assessments of drumming progress and listening assignments. Each student will produce a final written reflection on their drumming practice and experiences and the creative process.
