ETM 531 - Culturally Reflective Instruction- Humanities

Credits: 3
This course will challenge candidates to examine the transformational power of informational, historical, and narrative texts to disrupt rather than reproduce societal inequities.  Candidates will examine how traditional texts and media within the humanities curricula subtly teach children to value the dominant culture, rather than explore their own lives and the lives of those marginalized or dominated. Candidates will create a lesson strand (including the method of assessment) around existing curriculum indicators that disrupts the dominant narrative by including diverse perspectives and challenging students to be agents of change in their community.
