ETM 533 - Narrative, Marginalization and Empowerment

The purpose of this course is to explore how writers, education activists, reporters, musicians, documentarians, teachers and students generate narratives to explain, analyze, and create change in education as well as explore how key “counter-narratives” illuminate and unpack the constructs of race and racism. Participants will reflect on key essays, stories, songs, and documentaries.to understand the power of narrative as a vehicle for social change. Candidates will construct their own narrative to use as a tool for reflective and generative discourse around change in an educational community.
