2. One 4-credit writing course in English above the 1000 level
3. One course on the nature and structure of language, from:
4. Two British literature courses, one of which must be about British literature before 1660.
5. One course about American literature
6. One course that examines a historically underrepresented literature, from:
7. Four 4-credit electives in literature, English language, or writing above the 1000 level

DEPARTMENTAL WRITING REQUIREMENT: Students who major in English must take a second writing course in workplace communication for the McDaniel Plan’s Writing in the Disciplines requirement. The 4 credits will not apply to the English major. The courses that constitute workplace communication are:
