2013-2014 Undergraduate Catalog [ARCHIVED CATALOG]

Physics – Engineering Major

This is designed as a five-year program. During the first three years, students are enrolled at McDaniel College, and during the last two years at an approved engineering school. At the present time the College has established programs with the University of Maryland; however, students may elect to attend any accredited engineering school.

Successful completion of the program provides students with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Physics from McDaniel College and a Bachelor of Science degree in engineering from the engineering school; the College’s degree is awarded upon notification by the engineering school that students have met all requirements for the engineering degree. During the three years at the College, students must complete 96 semester hours, the McDaniel Plan Requirements, and the courses listed under Pre-Engineering in this catalog. In addition to these courses, there may be specific courses required by the engineering school to which students wish to transfer. Students are urged to select the desired school by the beginning of the sophomore year in order that those requirements can be considered in planning the College program. If students are interested in an engineering career, they should also consider the advantages of completing a standard four-year physics major program prior to transfer to an engineering school. With two additional years of study at an engineering school, students should complete a bachelor’s degree in engineering, and may be able to complete a master’s degree in engineering.
