2009-2010 Graduate & Professional Studies Catalog [ARCHIVED CATALOG]

Message from the Dean

There has never been a more exciting time to be part of Graduate and Professional Studies at McDaniel College.  Graduate students at McDaniel grow professionally and personally, improve career skills and develop new ones, and tell us they are grateful foDean Henry B. Reiffr their experiences.  We are on the move, and you will not be disappointed if you get on board.

All of our already highly-respected programs in PreK-12 education are to receive recommended unconditional accreditation from the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) and the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) in October 2009, an unprecedented recognition.  The evaluations from these two organizations confirmed what we already knew.  In the state ranked first in education in the United States, McDaniel offers the top education programs.  Why do NCATE and MSDE think so highly of us?  They asked our students in PreK-12 education what they thought about the programs at McDaniel.  As the saying goes, it’s not bragging if you can back it up.

We do more than prepare teachers, administrators, counselors, and a host of educational specialists.  At McDaniel, you will find professional programs in Exercise Science and Physical Education, Gerontology, Human Resources Development, Human Services Management, and Leadership in Global Enterprise.  And in keeping with McDaniel’s historic mission as a college of the liberal arts and sciences, our Master of Liberal Arts Program provides a unique interdisciplinary approach to graduate education.  You can be assured that all of these programs are delivered with the same quality as our exemplary programs in education.

Almost a decade into the new millennium, change occurs faster than ever.  Graduate and Professional Studies at McDaniel are changing to meet new demands while remaining true to our traditional mission.  This is the first time that our catalog is paperless, a reflection of our commitment to going green and social responsibility.  We have expanded off-campus offerings to make graduate education more accessible to students throughout the state of Maryland and beyond.  We look forward to increasing online instruction using state-of-the-art technology, truly making use of the computer revolution that has changed the world radically and will continue to do so.

Please take a look at this web-based catalog and the Graduate and Professional Studies website, which should answer virtually any question you may have about graduate education at McDaniel.  But don’t forget that it is the people who make our programs special.  We want to hear from you.  Talk to us, and discover what Graduate and Professional Studies can do for you and your future.
