FYS 1163 - Body Talk Uncensored

Credits: 4.0
This course explores the ways in which the body has been used as a vehicle for communication over time and across cultures. The course specifically highlights the biological, sociological, and psychological implications of anorexia, bulimia, and binge eating disorder. In addition, students will be introduced to a breadth of theories regarding eating disorders as well as tattooing, piercing, self mutilation, and other forms of body modification. This course intends for students to think critically about the manifest and underlying meanings involved in different forms of body alterations from an informed and flexible position over time and across cultures.
