AHY 504 - Women in the Arts Credits: 3 This course will explore the extraordinary contributions made by women artists throughout the history of western art, and the challenges they have overcome in order to succeed in their profession. Students will explore the dual role of women as producers of imagery and objects or representation, and will discuss issues that arise when artists are categorized by gender. Artists studied will include: Sofonisba Anguissola, Artemisia Gentileschi, Judith Leyster, Mary Cassatt, Georgia O’Keeffe, Frida Kahlo, and Judy Chicago.
