MUS 1161 - Global Drumming TraditionsCredits: 4 This course teaches students the techniques and rhythms of three drums: the kanjira, a small tambourine from South India used in folk and classical music; daf, a large Kurdish frame drum associated with Sufi ceremonies; and the riqq, the Arab tambourine, the primary accompaniment drum of Arab classical music. We will practice the South Indian rhythm language known as solkattu throughout the semester as a way of understanding and memorizing the patterns we study. McDaniel Plan: Creative Expression.
