ENG 3341 - British Novel ICredits: 4 A survey of the British novel from its beginnings in the early eighteenth century through the mid-nineteenth century. In addition to studying theories explaining the novel’s relatively recent emergence as a dominant literary form, students will examine novels by DeFoe, Fielding, Richardson, Austen and others within their social, intellectual and historical contexts.
