                | ENG 2234 - Victorian Literature: Between the CoversCredits: 4Vic Lit: Between the Covers is an introduction to Victorian literature and culture.  What was considered proper moral and ethical behavior in the Victorian period? What aspirations and secret desires were considered outside the bounds of propriety? How do we understand a culture whose official values place a high value on propriety, and yet where prostitution, illegitimate pregnancy, and drup use were rampant? A reading
of works of Victorian literature ranging from Charlotte Bronte’s Jane Eyre to R.L. Stevenson’s The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde will cast light on these questions.
