EDU 577 - School Organization SEL

Credits: 1
Note EDU 575 and EDU 576 are recommended as prerequisites but not required.
This course is designed for teachers who wish to implement Social Emotional Learning (SEL) outside of the silo of an individual classroom. Teachers will explore how collaboration with colleagues can lead to school-wide SEL implementation. Teachers will also discuss how modeling best practices for SEL, teaching best practices for SEL and having students apply SEL skills in the classroom can effect the school environment and student success. Current research in psychology, social science, and brain science as well as the CASEL Framework (2022) for Social Emotional Learning will provide the foundation for learning. Candidates will extend their SEL knowledge to their schools through weekly readings, activities, and reflections—both alone and with an accountability partner and/or group.
