RDS 533 - Teaching Writing with Children’s Literature

Note *Throughout the semester, candidates apply craft techniques to personal writing and implement developmentally appropriate practices in a school setting.

This course examines effective techniques for composing personal and fictional narratives, as well as frameworks for authentic inquiry and nonfiction writing. Candidates analyze elements of craft using mentor texts as writing models, explore recursive writing processes, and investigate assessments and instructional contexts to support writing. Candidates compose original texts, identify mentor authors, apply craft elements, and plan writing instruction to address varied disciplines, purposes, and audiences.
