FYS 1247 - Modern Drug Discovery

Credits: 4
Modern drug discovery is a multi-billion dollar industry responsible for the design, synthesis and evaluation of new drugs for debilitating conditions such as cancer, heart disease, depression and many more. In this course students will examine all aspects of the drug discovery process and how it has evolved into its current target-based form. The students will gain an understanding of how cutting-edge techniques are used in drug discovery. They will also gain an understanding of the financial impact of drug discovery - the cost of research and development, intellectual property, generics, marketing and sales. This course will provide students interested in the health and medical sciences with perspective on this critical part of our health care system.
