PSI 2229 - Non-State Actors in International Relations

Credits: 4
The course offers a general introduction concerning four main types of non-state actors with high relevance for international relations: media organisations, corporations, non-governmental/civil-society organisations and violent non-state actors. This is followed by classes focusing on particular case studies, drawn from a large pool of available case studies suitable for the purpose. For a student of Political Science, understanding the commonalities and peculiarities of these actors gives one awareness of key sources of impact on states and their (international) relations and key targets of particular state policies and regulations, allowing an improved appreciation of international politics, foreign policy, a wide range of public policies, and the roles and significance of non-state actors themselves.
Note: Offered at the Budapest campus only.
Prerequisite(s) PSI-1101
