SWK 4407 - Senior Seminar on Professional Behavior

Credits: 4
Senior seminars in Social Work focus on the integration of social work concepts and theories with field instruction. While the overall emphasis of senior seminars is to prepare students for competent generalist practice, this seminar, taken during the first semester in which students are at a field placement, particularly focuses on the ability of students to demonstrate ethical and professional behavior. Topics covered include ethical decision-making; demonstrating professional behavior, including appearance and communication; maintaining appropriate boundaries with clients; using rights-based, anti-racist, and anti-oppressive lenses to understand and critique the social work profession; and practicing self-care as a means toward competent and ethical social work practice.
