SWK 4408 - Senior Seminar on Engaging in ADEICredits: 4 Senior seminars in Social Work focus on the integration of social work concepts and theories with field instruction. While the overall emphasis of senior seminars is to prepare students for competent generalist practice, this seminar, taken during the second semester in which students are at a field placement, particularly focuses on the ability of students to engage in anti-racism, diversity, equity, and inclusion in social work practice. Topics covered include the impact of racism and oppression on practice at the individual, family, group, organizational levels; the dimensions of diversity as understood through the intersectionality of factors (such as age, ethnicity, gender, race); and applying cultural humility to manage the influence of bias, power, privilege, and values in working with clients and constituencies.
