PHI 2212 - Queer Philosophy

Credits: 4
In this course, we will consider the intersections of philosophy, gender, sexuality, race and identity through the lens of queer theory and critical thought. Using an interdisciplinary approach, we will consider the work of philosophers, thinkers/theorists, and activists whose work challenges normalized notions of identity, desire, and social hierarchies. Throughout the semester we will explore the history and development of queer theory, critique the notion of  heteronormativity, and examine the political landscape of identity and representation. Additionally, we will engage the relationship between queer theory, critical race theory, and feminist theory, and consider how queer philosophy provides insights into questions about freedom, autonomy, and justice.
