Lumen Scholars will embed themselves in the campus and local community by engaging in projects that challenge them to connect academic learning with social responsibility. The focus of the course will vary by semester and instructor. Students will apply experiential knowledge to promote an understanding of theories and methods related to social impact outcomes, interdisciplinary exploration, and ethical reflection. The course will incorporate readings from diverse disciplines to help students understand the foundational theories that explain how societies are organized and how individuals navigate social structures. In-class discussions will explore the ways that local communities shape identity, purpose, and civic engagement.
