PSI 2230 - Post-Soviet RussiaCredits: 4 This course examines contemporary Russian and Post-Soviet politics. It starts with an historical perspective on the imperial and Soviet legacies, before covering the transition away from Communism and planned economy, and eventually the rise to power and entrenchment in office of Vladimir Putin. It also considers Russian foreign policy, the fraught relations with its neighbors, the West, and the war against Ukraine since 2014. The experience of Ukraine is dealt with separately at the end, offering a contrast to that of Russia. Note: Offered at the Budapest campus only.
