Learning Technology Specialist (LTS) Certificate

Overview


The Online Post-Baccalaureate Learning Technologies Specialist Certificate Program is designed for P-12 teachers and administrators to become effective planners, designers, developers, evaluators, and leaders in the use of technology for teaching and learning.  Each course has a theoretical and practical component.  Candidates’ assignments are plans, projects, and learning activities that can be used in their own educational settings.

The four core courses are structured so that upon successful completion, candidates demonstrate proficiency in all key outcomes determined by NETS (National Educational Technology Standards for Teachers), MTTS (Maryland Technology Teacher Standards) and MTSSA (Maryland Technology Standards for School Administrators).  The electives provide each candidate a choice to further explore an additional area of study, such as assistive technology, differentiated instruction, multimedia development, or strategies for teaching the digital generation.

Each candidate will develop an online portfolio that displays and reflects upon the key assignments (aligned with appropriate standards) developed throughout the program.  The portfolio components will include: (a) Planning and Evaluation, (b) Learning Design, (c) Technology Applications, (d) Leadership, and (e) the area chosen by the candidate as an elective.  Each online class in the certificate program will offer a portfolio tutorial that provides guidance and instruction on setting up an online portfolio.  All assignments in the LTS certificate program will be portfolio components.

Taught online in 8-week sessions, the 4 core courses and 1 elective may be taken in any order.  Candidates are able to complete the certificate in one year without having to take more than one course at a time.  The courses will count toward a M.S. degree in Curriculum and Instruction.

Admissions Requirements


Candidates must submit:

  • application for graduate study with non-refundable fee
  • official transcript conferring bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
