Sociology Major with Education Minor

Note that course requirements for the Education Minor are subject to change in order to meet Maryland State Department of Education certification regulations and accreditation requirements.

Elementary Certification

Students interested in teaching at the elementary level (grades 1-6) in Maryland public schools may major in any academic program at McDaniel College and complete a core set of elementary education requirements .

Secondary Certification

Students may earn Maryland certification in Social Studies at the secondary level (7-12) by completing a McDaniel College degree requirements and the following:

Sociology major

Completion of basic Sociology major and the following required courses.

PSI 1101 - Introduction to Political Science
PSI 2202 - State and Local Government
PSI 2204 - Approaches to International Relations

Education minor

Completion of all Secondary Education minor requirements and the following required courses:

EDU 3145 - PDS Field Practicum in Secondary Social Studies
EDU 4432 - Secondary Student Teaching (Middle School)
EDU 4434 - Secondary Student Teaching (High School)
