Middle Eastern Studies Minor

Linguistic Competence


Students who want to minor in Middle Eastern Studies must show competence in any Middle Eastern language (Arabic, Farsi, Hebrew or Turkish) through the fourth semester of college study, through placement or course work (at McDaniel, through Arabic 2212).

24 credits of approved coursework


One Foundational course: SIS 2215: Arab World or PSI 2236: The Politics of the Middle East or any other course that covers the history or culture of the Middle East.

Five additional courses from the following (no more than 2 courses in one single department):

Special Topics Courses


  • Special topics courses such as HIS 2265: The Arab-Israeli Conflict, REL 2265: Islam, REL 2265: Women in Islam and the Middle East, SOC 2265: Growing up in Gaza and other courses approved by the Program Coordinator.
