Overview
Contact: Margaret Kulow
The Equity and Excellence in Education Post-Baccalaureate Certificate prepares candidates to be well-versed in the competencies needed to teach in classrooms with diverse student populations. Participants will examine the foundations of becoming a culturally responsive social justice educator and gain skills needed to be change agents in public schools that are working to create more equitable learning environments for students of diverse backgrounds. Coursework will also explore instructional strategies and curriculum materials which challenge current oppressive structures in school systems and assist participants in creating and influencing policies that affect classrooms and communities. McDaniel will award a certificate for completion of the series of five courses. This certificate has been endorsed by the Maryland Higher Education Commission (MHEC).
Completers may continue to take coursework in this field leading toward a 36 hour specialized M.S. degree in Elementary or Secondary Education.
Completers also have the option to transfer all of the courses in this certificate to an M.S. in Curriculum and Instruction as an area of specialization.
