History Major

Required:


  •  Ten HIS electives in History. (Two of the 10 HIS electives must be 3000-level seminars.)
  •  

    One course in each of the following categories (must be above the 1000-level):

    • Ancient World or Europe before 1789
    • Modern Europe (since 1789)
    • America
    • Asia

    Six additional courses (No more than four courses may be at the 1000-level.)

Transfer Courses:


Students may transfer up to 20 credits towards the History major. (Please note that only four 1000-level courses can be counted towards the major). Additionally, at least two of the four area courses (i.e. Asia, America, Ancient World/Early Europe, Modern Europe) must be taken at the McDaniel College. Students entering with an Associate’s Degree receive a waiver allowing up to four 1000-level transfer courses. A grade of a 4 or 5 on an AP History test counts as a transfer elective at the 1000-level.

Departmental Writing Requirement


DEPARTMENTAL WRITING REQUIREMENT:  Students who major in History are required to take TWO 3000-level seminars, one of which must be taken before the Senior year.
