Elementary Education Major

Students interested in teaching at the elementary level (grades 1-6) in Maryland public schools major in Elementary Education.  Upon completion of McDaniel’s approved elementary education program, and the Bachelor’s degree, candidates will be eligible for initial teaching certification at the elementary level in Maryland.  Students who desire certification in another state should become familiar with certification requirements in that state and discuss plans with an education advisor.

Additional Requirements


  • Maryland required PRAXIS I/PRAXIS CORE, SAT, or ACT scores or an alternate pathway which requires a 3.0 cumulative GPA at graduation
  • Maryland required PRAXIS II scores in appropriate content area or Elementary Education and completion of the edTPA assessment
  • Successful completion of the portfolio requirement
