This graduate program offers students an opportunity to pursue an interest in the discipline of Kinesiology and Sport. Successful completion of an approved program leads to the Master of Science degree. Students pursuing the Master of Science degree are required to select one of two emphases: Sport Management or Applied Exercise Science. Candidates will be required to complete a three-credit capstone with a choice of thesis, approved special study, or internship requirement.
Admissions Requirements
Applicants to the program must:
- Complete an application for graduate study
- Submit an official transcript conferring bachelor’s degree (minimum 3.0 GPA*) from an accredited institution.
*Please note: Students with a GPA between 2.75 and 2.99 can be admitted provisionally, which requires a student to maintain a 3.0 GPA in the first 9-12 credit hours. Students with less than a 2.75 GPA can be considered for provisional admission on a case-by-case basis but may be required to provide additional documentation or participate in an interview. Admission may also require additional conditions.
International Students:
This program is delivered primarily online and as a result does not meet the federal regulations for international students to study in the US. If you are a US citizen living outside of the US, you should contact gps@mcdaniel.edu to discuss your eligibility for admission to this program.
Courses
All degree candidates must successfully complete the required core, an emphasis area, supporting electives, and a capstone.
Emphasis Areas (choose one):
All students must choose one of two emphases:
- Sport Management
- Applied Exercise Science
Sport Management (15 credits)
The Sport Management emphasis provides a body of knowledge essential to leadership positions in the field of sport in both the public and private sector. Students must complete the five required Sport Management courses listed below (15 credits) in addition to two electives.
Applied Exercise Science (15 credits)
The Applied Exercise Science emphasis provides an in-depth study for those wishing to explore further the science of human movement and exercise. Students can choose from any of the below KIN courses or other courses as approved by the Program Coordinator to satisfy the Applied Exercise Science emphasis.
Electives (6 credits)
All students are required to choose 6 credits of electives which can be chosen from any of the KIN courses offered. Electives should be chosen with the guidance of the Program Coordinator. Students with the Sport Management emphasis are encouraged to choose from the Sport Management electives listed below.

State Authorization
McDaniel is an approved institutional member of the National Council of State Authorization Reciprocity Agreement (NC-SARA). Membership in SARA is intended to make it easier for students to take online courses/programs offered by postsecondary institutions based in another state. SARA membership allows McDaniel to accept and deliver our programs/courses online to students in 49 States, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Students who reside in California, currently the only state not a member of SARA, should contact the admissions office prior to application to verify if you are eligible to participate in the online program of interest.
