European Studies Minor

Department of World Languages, Literatures, and Cultures

Students will complete this interdisciplinary minor with five courses (20 credits) about Europe from the following fields: Art History, Cinema, History, Literature, Political Science and International Studies, Philosophy, and Religious Studies. In addition, students must show a level of proficiency in a European language other than English at the equivalent of four semesters of college study.

No more than two courses can be from the same subject area.

Pan-European Perspective CORE (1 Course):


As a core course, students must choose from one of the courses that offers a pan-European perspective, which will form the basis of the way the student shapes the rest of the minor.

Study Abroad


European Studies minors are encouraged to spend a semester at the McDaniel Budapest campus. McDaniel College also has student exchange programs with the Université Saint-Louis, Brussels, Belgium, and other opportunities for study abroad in European countries such as France, Germany, and Spain. Students who study abroad will have one course waived.
