Department of Nursing

Department Chair: Heather Gable, DNP

Description

The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program at McDaniel College is designed to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and clinical experience necessary to excel in the dynamic nursing field. Students will engage in a comprehensive curriculum integrating theory with experiential opportunities, preparing them to deliver compassionate, evidence-based care in various healthcare settings.

Practical learning is not just a part of the BSN program at McDaniel College, it’s at the heart of it. Under the supervision of experienced nursing faculty and clinical preceptors, students will have the opportunity to apply their knowledge in diverse, interdisciplinary, clinical settings, including hospitals, clinics, community health centers, and long-term care facilities. Our state-of-the-art simulation labs provide a safe and controlled environment for students to practice and refine their clinical skills. Simulated patient scenarios allow students to develop critical thinking, decision-making, and communication skills before entering real-world clinical settings.

The BSN program at McDaniel College is not just about the present, it’s about the future. It prepares students for success not only as competent clinicians but also as leaders in the nursing profession. Transition to practice is integrated into the curriculum to help students transition seamlessly into their nursing careers upon graduation. Graduates of our BSN program are well-prepared to pursue a wide range of nursing careers, as Registered Nurse (RN) in hospitals, clinics, and other healthcare settings.* Additionally, the BSN serves as a solid foundation for further education at the graduate level, including doctoral programs.

Through support and mentorship, the faculty are committed to fostering the next generation of compassionate, competent, and innovative nurses who will make a difference in the lives of individuals, families, and communities.

*Completion of this program does not guarantee licensure. In some cases, a criminal history may be a barrier to completion and receiving licensure.

Admission to Program

McDaniel College offers several pathways for admission to the Nursing program. Admission consideration for nursing is a multi-step process. In all cases, applicants will first be reviewed for admission to McDaniel College. Only those who are admitted to McDaniel will be considered for the nursing program. The strongest applicants will be invited to a mandatory interview as part of the nursing admissions process. Following the interview, candidates will be notified if they have been admitted to the nursing program.

Direct Entry:

McDaniel College is pleased to admit a small number of students directly into the pre-health nursing track as incoming first-year students. This guarantees a spot in the Nursing cohort assuming all prerequisite requirements are met.

Gated Entry:

Some students may not be sure of their interest in pursuing Nursing until they are already enrolled at McDaniel, or they may not be admitted to the direct-entry program. These students will have an opportunity to apply to the Nursing program at the end of their third semester.

Transfer Entry:

Students from other colleges or universities are eligible to apply to transfer to our B.S.N. program.

*A criminal background check is required prior to starting the clinical components of this program.

Note

Students will follow the academic requirements, policies, and procedures outlined in the college catalog of the year 3000 level nursing coursework commences.
