Description
The interdisciplinary Health Sciences major helps prepare students for graduate and professional programs in the Healthcare field. All Health Sciences majors complete a common core of required courses and a specialized track of required courses specific to their career goal. Health Sciences Core (32 credits):

Requirements for Departmental Honors
A 3.50 GPA in all courses taken in the major and recommendation by the Chemistry and Kinesiology departments. BA to MS Occupational Therapy (Accelerated 5-year Program)
The accelerated five-year BA in Health Sciences, OT specialization to the Master of Science in Occupational Therapy program enables academically qualified, well-prepared undergraduate students who have determined they want to pursue a career in Occupational Therapy to enter into the program as first, second or third-year students. Students must apply for admission and be accepted into the accelerated program. Admission is competitive and the number of students admitted to the MS in OT program is limited. Students admitted to the accelerated five-year program will complete the 128 credits required for the undergraduate degree including all major and specialization courses, all McDaniel Plan requirements and all prerequisites for the MS in OT degree by the end of the third year of study. Students who meet the progression criteria will begin taking graduate courses in the summer following their third year of study, completing 28 graduate credits by December of the fourth year of study. Students will meet their Health Sciences capstone requirement by completing two graduate courses, OTH-501 and IPE-505 for 5 graduate credits and the remaining required 23 graduate credits (below) will fulfill the elective credits, to satisfy the 128 undergraduate credit to earn the BA degree. Students will matriculate to the master’s degree program in the January term, completing the additional 50 credits required for the master’s degree in the next 1.5 years including summer. Both degrees will be completed in five years. Students who do not meet the academic requirements for progression while an undergraduate student or who choose not to pursue the accelerated five-year program may stop out at any time and continue in the Kinesiology major without penalty but must complete all requirements to be awarded the bachelor’s degree. |
