Art Major - Art History Specialization (Budapest Campus only)

Only offered at the McDaniel Budapest Campus

Department of Art

Department Chair: Chloe Irla, M.F.A.

Budapest Contact: Matthew Adamson, Ph.D., Director of Academic and Student Affairs

Description

The Budapest campus art program includes a specialization in art history. This specialization combines foundational work and practical skill-building in the arts with learning and analysis in art history. It results in a grounding in the creative arts combined with historical analysis, evaluation of the visual, and a sense of curation stemming from studies in art history.

The undergraduate Budapest campus art history specialization prepares students for a variety of career choices. Students completing their studies in the McDaniel art history specialization go into education, curation and museum work, marketing and art production, private enterprises and the non-profit sector, as well as to graduate school programs. Students in other majors often add art and art history courses to build new, marketable skills as well as for personal enrichment and a desire for creative satisfaction. The Budapest art history specialization includes art coursework at the facilities of the Budapest campus as well as visits to and opportunities in the art spaces of Budapest, the capital of Hungary. These include the Hungarian national gallery, the Ludwig museum, other municipal museums, and local, contemporary art spaces in Budapest such as the Paloma and Lumen galleries. Students also have the chance to visit individual artists’ studios in Budapest as well as carry out internships at local galleries and printshops.
