This graduate program offers students an opportunity to pursue an interest in the discipline of Sport and Fitness Management. Students pursuing the Master of Science degree are required to choose a specialization: Sport Management, Fitness Management, or a self-designed specialization which provides more flexibility to align your learning with your personal and professional goals. All specializations require six credits from the core courses and a three-credit capstone.

Admissions Requirements


Applicants to the program must:

  • Complete an application for graduate study
  • Submit an official transcript conferring bachelor’s degree (minimum 3.0 GPA*) from an accredited institution.

*Please note: Students with a GPA between 2.75 and 2.99 can be admitted provisionally, which requires a student to maintain a 3.0 GPA in the first 9-12 credit hours. Students with less than a 2.75 GPA can be considered for provisional admission on a case-by-case basis but may be required to provide additional documentation or participate in an interview. Admission may also require additional conditions.

International Students:

This program is delivered entirely online and as a result does not meet the federal regulations for international students to study in the US. If you are a US citizen living outside of the US, you should contact gps@mcdaniel.edu to discuss your eligibility for admission to this program.

Courses


All degree candidates must successfully complete the required core, a specialization, supporting electives, and a capstone.

Sport Management Specialization Required Courses (24 credits)


The Sport Management specialization provides a body of knowledge essential to leadership positions in the field of sport in both the public and private sectors. Students must complete the seven required Sport Management courses listed below (21 credits) in addition to one elective course (3 credits).

Elective (3 credits)


Sport Management students must take one elective course (3 credits) chosen from any other courses in the program.

Fitness Management Specialization Required Courses (24 credits)


The Fitness Management specialization provides an in-depth study for those wishing to explore further the area of fitness or coaching. Students must complete five Fitness Management courses in addition to three elective courses. 

Self-Designed Specialization Required Courses (24 credits)


Students in the Self-Designed specialization will develop a plan of study with the approval of the program coordinator, choosing 24 credits of coursework from the list of available courses within the Sport Management or Fitness Management specializations and completing the required core courses and capstone.

Capstone (3 credits)


Students in all specializations are required to choose one of the following for a capstone option:

State Authorization


McDaniel is an approved institutional member of the National Council of State Authorization Reciprocity Agreement (NC-SARA). Membership in SARA is intended to make it easier for students to take online courses/programs offered by postsecondary institutions based in another state. SARA membership allows McDaniel to accept and deliver our programs/courses online to students in 49 States, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Students who reside in California, currently the only state not a member of SARA, should contact the admissions office prior to application to verify if you are eligible to participate in the online program of interest.
