SLM 552 - Practicum in School Librarianship

This course provides candidates the opportunity to gain practical experience in a school library media center under the supervision of a certified media specialist and a McDaniel College instructor. (The practicum is 99 hours; candidates who are not certified must demonstrate 40 hours engaged in direct teaching or working with students.) Candidates create a thematic literature activity; plan and implement a staff in-service; develop, implement, and assess a collaborative lesson with a content teacher; evaluate the library using state and national standards; and reflect on their experiences. Candidates are encouraged to collect data for their action research project created in RSM 541.
