DED 511 - Foundations of Deaf Education Credits: 3 Prerequisites passing entrance level ASLPI and EPE assessments This course explores the relationship of the goals and processes of Deaf education to those of bilingual education in an historical context. Current demographic, legal, educational, political, medical, and social trends which affect deaf students’ instructional delivery and placement are reviewed. Federal, state and local legislation affecting Deaf and hard-of-hearing students will be analyzed and critiqued. Criteria for the establishment of quality educational services for Deaf students will be presented.
