CED 541 - Basic Helping Skills

Prerequisites CED 501
This introductory skills course introduces students to fundamental helping skills. Students will develop and practice a range of basic communication patterns to facilitate a healthy therapeutic relationship between counselor and client. Students learn counseling skills such as attending behaviors, open and closed questions, eliciting emotions and cognitions challenging, basic empathy, and summarizing. A focus on self-awareness will be incorporated throughout the course.
