Religious Studies Major

Required:

• Liberal Arts Core (16hrs)

• REL 1104 - Introduction to Religious Studies
• REL 2240 - Religion and Critical Thought
• REL 3200 - Writing in Philosophy and Religious Studies

• Choose one from the following:

• REL 4490 - Seminar in Religious Studies
• REL 4491 - Collaborative Research in Religious Studies
• REL 4492 - Senior Thesis

Focus Areas (12hrs.)

Students must take at least three courses that deal with a major area within religious studies. Focus areas available on campus are listed below. Students interested in other focus areas are urged to consider study abroad. (Off campus courses require the specific approval of the Religious Studies faculty to satisfy this requirement.)

Electives (12 hrs)

• Three courses in religious studies at the 2000-level or higher, at least one of courses must be outside of the focus area.

• AHY 3305 - Sacred Architecture
• HIS 2237 - Religion and Society in Imperial China
• MUL 2235 - History of Gospel Music

Departmental Writing Requirement

DEPARTMENTAL WRITING REQUIREMENT:  Students who major in Religious Studies are required to take

• REL 3200 - Writing in Philosophy and Religious Studies
