Students interested in pursuing physics as a major have two paths open to them for their first year.
For students who place into or above MAT-1117 (Calculus 1):
In the Fall: Students should enroll in PHY-1101 (General Physics 1) and the associated laboratory course (PHY-1001), as well as Calculus 1 or Calculus 2 (based on placement).
In the Spring: Students should take General Physics 2 (PHY-1102) and the associated laboratory course (PHY-1001) and Calculus 2, if necessary.
For students who place lower than MAT-1117 (Calculus 1):
In the Fall: Students should enroll in either Electronics Made Simple (GSC-1121) or Understanding the Universe (GSC-1106), both of which count as electives for the Physics major. Students should also enroll in the highest level mathematics course based on placement.
