HIS 2242 - American Indian History to 1840Credits: 4 This course will seek to examine the history of American Indians, and their wide range of contacts with Europeans, with an emphasis on eastern North America through the era of removal. We will examine a range of first-hand and scholarly sources offering a glimpse of religious encounters, shifts in trade, military invasions, ecological transformations, legal disputes, and diplomatic alliances. This course also uses Reacting to the Past pedagogy to encourage learning through historical role-playing and a simulation that encourages research, speaking, writing, debating, and critical thinking in additional to fostering teamwork and leadership abilities.
