HIS 2204 - Russia: Origins Peter the GreatCredits: 4 This course will introduce students to major events and themes in the history of Russia and its neighbors from medieval beginnings to the reign of Peter the Great. Political, social, and cultural developments will be studied in the contexts of Kievan Rus’ and its successor states, the Mongol invasion, the rise of Moscow as a new political center, the controversial reign of Ivan the Terrible, territorial expansion from Ukraine to Siberia, and Peter the Great’s westernizing reforms.
