Note: Course requirements for the Education Minor are subject to change in order to meet Maryland State Department of Education certification regulations and accreditation requirements.
Students interested in teaching Art in Maryland public schools major in Art and complete a core set of secondary education requirements. Specific ART courses are required of education minors. Students are encouraged to meet with department advisors as soon as possible to incorporate these required courses in their program planning for the major. Upon completion of McDaniel’s approved program in the subject area, and the Bachelor’s degree with the minor in education, candidates will be eligible for initial teaching certification at all grade levels (PreK-12) in Maryland. Students who desire certification in another state should become familiar with certification requirements in that state and discuss plans with an education advisor.
With careful planning, students are able to complete the major and education minor in four years or in four years with a ninth semester in full-time student teaching. This program option will result in a Bachelor of Arts degree.
