ETM 534 - The Immigrant Experience and Education in the U.S. Credits: 3 This course examines the experiences of past and more recent immigrant groups in the United States and the factors that impact the success of immigrant children in the U.S. educational system. Course content includes an historical overview of immigration and the education of immigrants in the U.S., an in depth examination of the factors that contribute to the integration of immigrant adults and children into American social structures, and a review of current practices in regard to the education of immigrant children in U.S. classrooms. Candidates will conduct a case study and develop an advocacy project, both of which promote practices and dispositions that contribute to positive educational outcomes for immigrant students.
