EDU 622 - Instructional Plans in Middle School Mathematics


Credits: 3
Note Students must be concurrently enrolled in EDU 622P.
This course will focus on the pedagogy and pedagogical-content knowledge related to middle school mathematics instruction (grades 5-9), instructional issues related to learning, and the use of technology in mathematics teaching and learning. Important course topics include connecting the content and pedagogy related to number and operations, ratio and proportion, expressions and equations, functions, geometry,
measurement statistics and probability, all guided by the content domains of the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics (CCSSO, 2010). The course will also address the Standards for Mathematical Practice and creating productive learning environments that support student participation and sense-making. Candidates will develop activities and lessons, assessments, and classroom management plans to address teaching mathematics in the middle school.

This course includes 150 minutes of class meeting a week AND a 6-hour weekly field experience (one full day) for participation and micro-teaching in a Maryland Professional Development School.
