MAT 1142 - Crocheted Hyperbolic GeometryCredits: 2 We will explore the unexpected behavior of familiar shapes like triangles, squares, and hexagons in the unfamiliar world of hyperbolic geometry by making crocheted models. What is so unusual about a triangle in hyperbolic geometry? Their angles don’t add up to 180 degrees. What about squares? You can fit five of them around a corner, not just four. To explore these and other examples of how hyperbolic geometry is different than Euclidean geometry students will be crocheting demonstration models of several examples as well as giving a presentation to the rest of the class using their crocheted models.
