PSI 2228 - Global Public HealthCredits: 4 The course introduces the most important concepts in international public health and discusses current and emerging issues on the global public health agenda. It focuses on the intersection between public health and international politics to offer a perspective on public health informed by Political Science/International Relations. As in other courses on global public health, much attention is paid to the notion of disease burden and the related health disparities, with an interest in developing a comparative understanding of these issues with a view to differences between countries and social groups around the world (including with a view to age, gender, social status, culture, etc., and the role of environmental, social and political factors in this). Other major topics on the agenda include the political challenges, strategic considerations and policy implications related to universal health coverage, humanitarian aid, health-related development aid, international burden-sharing during public health emergencies of international concern, the public health implications of chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear weapons, and the international drugs trade.
